Since you see your house every day, it can be easy to not notice your carpets getting dirty over time. But, it is a good idea to take a minute to really look at your carpet to see if it is in need of some upkeep. If you see these signs, it is probably time to get your carpet cleaned!

Here are three signs to look for:

1. Stains

Even if you don’t have any kids, it is easy to get stains on your carpet. Pets are one cause of stains. But, friends and family can also have an effect on carpets. Pretty much everyone is going to spill something at some point, and stains really degrade the look of the carpet. Schedule regular cleanings to prevent stains from building up and looking worse and worse over time, especially if you have a party or another event where many people will see your carpets.

1. Mildew

If your home tends to be humid, then mildew can become a problem. It is possible for mildew and mold to grow inside your carpet. This can look bad. But, more importantly, it can cause serious health issues for you and your family. If there is a mildew problem, you will often smell it when you enter your home. Take care of this promptly, as it can easily get out of hand. If mold and mildew are a constant issue, you may want to consider getting a dehumidifier.

1. Shading

You may not be familiar with this term. Shading is when your carpet has areas that are flattened out and look dirty. Generally, you will notice shading in areas that have a lot of traffic, such as stairs and hallways. Shading is caused by the carpet pile being either damaged, flattened, or both. The best way to prevent shading is through regular carpet cleanings.

Before the winter and snow come, it is a great time to have your carpets cleaned. Snow and water can put a lot of dirt into your carpets over the winter. A good rule of thumb is to have your carpets cleaned in the fall and in the spring. Obviously, if you have a big spill or notice that your carpet is just incredibly dirty, have it cleaned accordingly.
